As May wraps up, the employees of Nextech AR Solutions wanted to share their perspectives on mental health awareness month to provide a reminder that mental health is essential to one's overall health and wellbeing.
What does "good mental health" mean to you?
Good mental health is about being positive and kind towards yourself, embracing who you are, having emotional strength to process and deal with new and challenging situations while enjoying life and everything it has to offer!
Noora Mousa
To have good mental health means to to be alert, to have energy, to sleep well through the night and feel rested the next day.
Gloriela Rosas
I believe that mental health is just as important as physical health... to be healthy goes beyond what you eat or how much exercise you do. Think of health as your conversations, your environment, social circle and thoughts. Every aspect should enrich your personal concept of what it means to be healthy.
Nikita Karnani
How do you keep your mental health in check?
I spend as much time outside as possible. In fact, when my camera is off and I'm muted in the product and content expertise meetings, I'm usually watching from my phone as I walk outside!
Austin Childers
I try to express my feelings to close friends and family as often as I can, and ask for help when needed, which avoids keeping things that are troublesome or difficult to deal with to myself. I try to keep a work-life balance, often enjoying my passions and hobbies to avoid stress. I also am very physically active, eat healthy, and avoid smoking.
Julia Viola
I've learned to romanticize the mundane tasks in life to make uninteresting things interesting. For example, I had to go to the dentist the other day for a cleaning, and I absolutely dread going to the dentist. However, I chose to make a whole day out of it. I put on a nice outfit, listened to an informative podcast on my way to the appointment, and treated myself to a nice lunch afterwards. I keep my mental health in check by making a conscious effort to look forward to each day, enjoy the little things, and be grateful for where I am currently.
Nikita Karnani
How do you cope with difficult situations?
I stay calm, listen to all sides of the situation, place myself in other people's shoes, take action steps to rectify the situation with respect and dignity.
Melissa McQuillan
Fitness is my remedy to release toxins, and my pet keeps me comfort! I also search for advice from my friends during difficult times to get other perspectives.
Gloriela Rosas
I find it's very helpful to take a step back and give the situation some time and thought. Some "time" to let the situation sink in and play out, and some "thought" to really think about my emotions, how I'm feeling, and what my decisions and actions should be.

Last week we ran a poll, asking our community if the pandemic had an impact on their mental health. Here are the results:
So we asked our team the same question....
Has the pandemic affected your mental health?
Of course. It affected us all. But I like to think we've all been made a little kinder, more patient, and more understanding by going through this shared strife.
Austin Childers
No. I already had firm daily practices of meditation, yoga, exercise and this actually gave me more time to enjoy doing these things. The hardest part of the pandemic is not being able to see family.
Melissa McQuillan
Dealing with a pandemic has made me realize how important it is to take care of our mental health!! Not being able to go out, socialize and do the things I love like traveling gave me the opportunity to focus more on me and incorporating healthier habits like practicing yoga and meditation to deal with life and stress.
